Counting Methods
The Key to Winning
This section and the section on the basic strategy should be read and reread until they are mastered, for their contain the key elements necessary to beat the casino game of blackjack.
If you understand the basic strategy and make fla t bets you will win about 1percents from the house. However, if in addition to playing correctly you count cards and alter your bets when the deck is either favorable or unfavorable, raising the wagers when the cards are in your favor and lowering them when the cards are unfavorable, you have a huge advantage over the casino, for you can grind out the casino's bankroll in much the same manner that the casino grinds out the players at games where it has the edge.
But in other to know when the cards are favorable, you must learn to count cards. Counting cards doesn't imply knowing all the cards played or remaining in the deck; it means knowing certain ratios of important cards, which by them selves tell the whole story.
Counting cards is very important because the dealers, as we know, as now options, and the rules governing his play place a premium on the small cards remaining in the deck.
Since a dealer must hit all his stiff and potentially bust hands, the more small cards such as 3s, 4s,5s, and 6s remaining in the deck, the better chance he has of forming a strong hands of 17 or more. Thus the more small cards remaining in the pack, the worse it is for the player, who will be beaten when the dealer makes a solid hand out of his “stiff”.
