Counting Methods
The Key to Winning
Here's how the simple count works:
Each 3, 4, 5, or 6 played out has a value of +1.
Each 10-value card played has a value of -1.
All other cards are excluded from the count, but the player should keep a separate count of the aces. When counting cards, don't start the count until the cards have been removed by the dealer or played out. For example, if a player hits his hand and gets a 6, don't count that as +1. Wait until his cards are turned over by the dealer. In this way, a player can balance cards and can easily keep count.
What do I mean by balancing cards? If a king and a 6 show, deck is neither plus nor minus; it's neutral, since the plus and minus cards balance out each other. If you always look this type of balance it'll make card counting much easier.
Assume that you're at a casino blackjack table with four players. You're the fifth player, in the last, or third baseman's seat. You draw cards last and act last in this spot.
Since all cards at practically every single-deck game are face down, you'll be unable to take a count until the dealer turns over the player's cards to remove them, or until all cards have been played out and turned over by the dealer.
