The Casino Lounges
As we stated, keno should never be played as a serious game, but it's a fine game to fool around with when eating in a casino restaurant or when killing time in one of the casino lounges.
There are keno runners available, usually attractive young women, who walk around the restaurants and lounges, even near the regular gaming tables, collecting keno tickets and wagers and returning with the paid ticket after they've met the bet on your behalf. It's a free service, though the usual custom is to tip these runners. And while you wait for the next game to go on, it's an easy way to pass the time, watching the called keno numbers light up on the keno board, possibly numbers that you've selected. These boards are posted all around a casino, and can easily be seen from practically every seat in any of the lounges or restaurants.
I've spent many a lunch and dinner hour in a casino restaurant, fooling around with $1 bets, talking with friends about what I was going to do with the $50,000 I was aiming at winning, if I indeed was lucky enough to win.
Alas, I've never even come close. But it can be fun, and several friends or dinner mates can share in purchasing the tickets, and so the overall investment is quite small.
On the other hand, under pressure from serious blackjack play, I wanted to eat a meal in peace without doing any further gambling, and so didn't participate with friends when they bought keno tickets. But it was available if I wanted to. I have continually mentioned this as a fun game, because that's the way it should be played. The house has too great an advantage to overcome from this game to be taken seriously as a regular gambling venture.
