Types of Keno Tickets
Most combination tickets, however, are not based on rigid groups of numbers, such as the basic way ticket. A typical combination ticket wouldn't be made up of equal groupings of numbers, such as are found in a way ticket. The combination ticket on the following page shows this.
Here we have seven different combinations developed from three simple groupings, one of two-spots and two of four spots. This makes the combination ticket extremely versatile, though more complicated.
As with way tickets, casinos will allow a player to bet the tickets for less than the 70¢ minimum it requires for straight tickets, and most houses will permit a gambler to bet as little as 35¢ on each possible combination. Some combination tickets are so complicated that they can really tax the mind and ingenuity of both player and writer.
Therefore, when writing really complicated tickets it's a good idea to consult with the keno writer about minimum rates and the possible combinations resulting from the ticket, so that there is no mistake concerning the payoffs that might result if any of the combinations hit. Combination tickets can become very expensive because of all the ways inherent in even the simplest of tickets, and as game after game goes on, these costs really add up.
You should also be aware that the house edge, which is at least 20 percent in keno, doesn't get reduced or altered because combination, rather than straight tickets, are being played. All you are doing is combining many tickets in one ticket and playing them simultaneously when you play a combination ticket.
